Abbey Gardens explores how architecture can reconstruct the narrative of an abandoned church site. Through historical and spatial analysis, the site is understood as a former inward, religious space transformed by time and nature into an outward, secular relic. Its original centralized plan and axial order have gradually dissolved, replaced by fragments, sprawl, and promenade. The design deconstructs the church into architectural fragments, treating each ruin and its surrounding landscape as a site anchor. Among them, the bell tower becomes the most powerful element: an upright, enduring figure overlooking the entire site. Based on the idea of opening up the church, a sequence of gardens is developed around these anchors, intensifying the tower’s presence along the promenade route. The spatial climax appears where altar ruins, thriving local plants, and the heroic image of the tower meet. Together, they celebrate the dignity of the site and transform an eroded historical place into a lively, contemporary landscape experience.
