About the Artist
Jiaye Yao
I have a strong interest in game environment design and have always been fascinated by how spatial storytelling can be used to explore the complexity of the human psyche. The creation of Wendao: Three Corpses originated from my rethinking of the Daoist concept of “eliminating the three corpses”—does cultivation truly require the eradication of one’s humanity? Through this work, I aim to propose a different answer: true growth lies not in severance, but in acceptance. Set in a fictional xianxia world, the game combines puzzle-solving with symbolic boss encounters, guiding players to confront the manifestations of the Three Corpses and gradually realize that they are, in fact, fragments of emotions they once abandoned themselves. I hope that after putting down the controller, players will carry with them a more complete understanding of the self—that we do not need to become perfect beings, but simply whole ones.
