My Dream

2024

Medium:

Wood stick, White tape, White paper, Code, Cardboard, and Myself

Dimension:

This piece, "My Dream", is a practical fashion sculpture created with the goal of faithfully recreating only my desires. The purpose of this piece is to fit all of the edges of the front side onto the screen, blocking out all information other than the game, and making it possible to concentrate more on the game. Whenever I play games, I can see the living room from behind the monitor, making it very difficult to concentrate on the game; if I use this at times like that, I can easily block out all information and become immersed in the game. Moreover, this piece is in the evolution stage, and in the future I plan to make it possible to focus all of my senses, including sound, on the game.

This artwork have same idea that one of the concept “Legacy and Rupture”

Humans have a strange dependency on technology, and a curiosity about it. The more we prosper from technology, the more damage it causes us. In this work, the viewer is a game addict, and the work is completed by including the act of making tools to further my dependency on games.

Medium:

Acrylic Paints

Dimension:

When I moved to the United States six years ago, we bought a car as a means of transportation, but the camp I participated in this year required long distance travel every morning and evening, and as a result of using it so hard, the engine broke down and the repair costs became enormous, so my parents decided to sell the car. I wrote this work as a memorial to those memories, and the backgrounds seen from the car's mirrors and windows are painted with memorable scenery that I saw with this car. Since I live in the countryside of New York, the backgrounds are mainly cityscapes and countryside that I traveled to and from.

My work is deeply connected to one of the concepts of this exhibition, "Nostalgia for Industry." This work is based on the idea of personifying the memories between me and the machine, and giving emotion to a machine that does not have emotions by nature. Therefore, I express loneliness, transience, and nostalgia with a yellow background, and express memories and recollections by showing various timelines on the same piece.

About the Artist

Sohta Nakaseko

Sohta Nakaseko is a modern artist whose work is packed with a simpler interpretation of the relationship between games and modern society, which is derived from his complex of video games.

His work is not limited to one material, but is more varied and gives people new ideas. His works are created by taking a bird's-eye view of the polar opposite environments of Japan and America, where he was born and raised. Also, all of his works appeal to you with his memories, his love for games, and his feelings about a world that does not understand them. His goal in his work is to connect the whole world through games, giving people goals, and motivation by video games.

I started making works in earnest in the fall of 2023. Before that, I had never made a proper work, let alone painted a proper picture. However, my desire to express myself made me grow rapidly in a short period of time. This growth is connected to my big dream. In the future, my goal is to make game-related technology more deeply ingrained in our lives, which gives my work the consistency of game addiction. And the transience and expectation that technological advances will show us a new future while eliminating the rules and ways of thinking of the past, in those respects, I think my artistic philosophy is a perfect fit for this theme.
