This sound-embedded interactive installation explores the journey of life. Inspired by the growth rings of trees, each stage of life is depicted through distinct sounds and experiences, creating a multi-sensory narrative that resonates with the audience’s respective life journeys. Carved with conductive paint, seven pivotal life stages were presented through distinctive sounds, whose waves were curved into the shape of a growth ring. The growth ring of these sound waves represents the progress of time and the nonlinear nature of our life journeys. Below is the introduction of the seven stages:
Stage 1: Muffled sounds of heartbeats
Stage 2: The footsteps of Eden
Stage 3: Unwrapping a cheap fruit candy
Stage 4: Wind chimes in the rainy season
Stage 5: The crackling of torches
Stage 6: The noise in New York City Subway
Stage 7: Gentle lapping of waves
Traveling is a mindset: When we think of traveling, most of us will conceptualize it as a linear trip, from point A to point B. Through this work, we want to inspire the audience to think of traveling as a mindset. Traveling is a mark of time progressing, a symphony of your sensory memories, and a language that means differently to everyone.
Nostalgia and Technology: As technology advances and virtual connections become prevalent, it prompts us to look for a simpler interaction with the world - through our senses. Our work empowers the audience to touch, listen, and to see the work unfold, allowing individuals to travel back to their own journey of life.

About the Artists
Mingze Gao:
Inspired by Plato’s Theory of Forms, Mingze's artistic practice explores the emotional Forms that lie dormant within the human heart. While his works may only mimic these emotions, they possess a profound ability to evoke deep human sentiment. Specializing in physical, interactive installations, Mingze believes that the tangible nature of his art serves as a bridge to connect the audience with complex emotions. In contrast to digital art confined to screens, he asserts that his installations allow for a more immediate, authentic connection. Interactivity is the core of his work, transforming each piece into an immersive experience that envelops the viewer in the emotional landscape of the installation. Through this medium, Mingze breaks down barriers, allowing audiences to engage with emotions in their rawest form, highlighting the transformative power of being inside the artwork itself.

In therapy, Azure focuses on exploring families of origin, clients’ journeys of life, and how these past narratives have shaped clients into who they are today, and who they want to be tomorrow. She believes in the power of touring and reexamining the places we’ve been to, in order to embark on our respective new journeys. Through diverse platforms of art and creative expression, Azure seeks to inspire new perspectives on mental health, both inside and outside therapy space.
