Huaqi Liu is a Chinese-born, Maryland-based painter who explores the concept of destiny through cloud imagery, drawing from his Chinese cultural background. His work reflects a deep connection to nature, philosophy, and the emotional qualities of clouds, emphasizing their diversity and ever-changing nature.
Liu received his B.F.A. in Painting and Drawing from SUNY New Paltz University and his M.F.A. from the Maryland Institute College of Art, where he was awarded the merit scholarship in 2021. His works have been exhibited in group shows in cities like Baltimore, Chicago, Virginia, and New York, and he contributed to The Blooming Rainbow Project, a sister cities initiative recognized by the Mayor of Baltimore.
In this upcoming exhibition, Liu examines humanity’s drive for exploration in a future shaped by digital technology. Through the lens of "travel lust," he reflects on the curiosity and desire to explore both physical and imagined spaces.
